There are various tertiary oil recovery techniques, of which we are focused on chemical flooding, or the injection of chemicals such as alkali or polymer into the oil reservoirs. Due to technical and economic considerations, chemical flooding, especially polymer flooding and ASP injection, is currently considered as the preferred tertiary oil recovery technique in the PRC.
The four main segments of chemical flooding
-
Based on the geological features of the oilfield, suitable chemicals which would not affect the physical and chemical properties of the oilfield are selected for chemical flooding.
-
The selected chemicals are mixed into a desired composition, consistency and viscosity suitable for injecting into the oil reservoir.
-
Wellbore integrated technology is implemented to reduce abrasion of the oil pumping rod and improve the efficiency of the oil pumping unit.
-
After chemical flooding, crude oil is extracted, and the chemical waste, oil sludge and water in the residual liquid is then treated according to environmental protection standards. The treated water is recycled and reused for teritiary oil recovery and the oil sludge is disposed.
China Oilfield Technology focuses on Segments 2 and 4 of the chemical flooding process, customising and manufacturing equipment and products for injection of chemicals into oil reservoirs. Click here for more information on our products.
In addition to chemical flooding, there are also other tertiary oil recovery techniques, including:
- Miscible displacement, which injects carbon dioxide, inert gas or hydrocarbons into oil reservoirs;
and
- Thermal recovery, which injects steam or in-situ combustion into oil reservoirs
